John 20:11-23, 2025.03.12 (Wed)

"On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the disciples were together with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders. Then Jesus came and stood among them and said, 'Peace be with you!'" (John 20:19)

It's natural for us to invest our energy in what interests us most. Currently, my primary focus is organizing church membership records. While various programs were used in Korea previously, church directories can now be managed through applications, which I'm carefully exploring. Though I've discovered several advantages in efficient congregation and financial management, this process has also prompted me to reflect on the concept of "management."

To me, a church community—what we call "church"—is fundamentally a place of worship to God.

Beyond this, it's essential for pastors to systematically connect with members, understand their prayer requests, and recognize their spiritual interests. Since tools that facilitate such connections can be valuable, I've become interested in exploring them.

Additionally, when creating a church directory, ensuring the security of personal information is paramount. I believe that having a church directory accessible via smartphones could be an excellent way for members to safely check information. I'm particularly interested in finding ways for church members to share their contact information securely.

With this in mind, I'm working on entering members' information into a system and gathering additional details through group leaders when necessary. My hope is that this will enable the pastor to develop closer relationships with the congregation and allow church leaders to communicate more effectively with their groups and team members.

Reflections on Today's Passage

In today's scripture, we see that the early church responded to the resurrected Jesus with great fear. The Gospel of John contrasts Mary's reaction with that of the disciples. While Mary joyfully exclaimed, "Rabboni!" (Teacher), the disciples locked the doors out of fear. This description vividly illustrates their emotional state at that time.

Even after the resurrection, the fear of crucifixion continued to haunt the disciples. Jesus' command to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit," emphasizes how the early church was able to overcome their fears and anxieties.

Furthermore, the Gospel of John repeatedly highlights that Jesus had already spoken about His resurrection beforehand. This repetition was intended to prepare the disciples for understanding and accepting what was to come.

Faith is essentially a journey of acceptance and understanding. It involves listening to God's Word and striving to live according to it. And ultimately, this journey begins with communication.

Many difficulties within churches stem from poor communication. However, the communication we seek within the church isn't merely about sharing general information. Rather, it involves understanding what prayers are needed, what kind of help and cooperation are required, and how we can support one another.

Yesterday, Kim Yoon-kyung(Kwon Sa-nim)'s grandson, Sia, was born safely. Her daughter, Hye-jin, also had a smooth delivery, and both mother and baby are in good health.

Today, at 10:30 AM, Pastor Yoon Ji-eun will have a consultation with her doctor before undergoing surgery.

A church community is a place where we share both joyful news and prayer concerns. This is an essential aspect of communication, and it represents our ongoing commitment to acceptance and understanding.

Reflection Question

What efforts can we make to improve our acceptance and understanding of one another?

Intercessory Prayer Requests

  • Let us thank God for the new life He has given and pray for His healing touch upon Evangelist Yoon Ji-eun during her surgery today.

  • May God's grace and love overflow in our Wednesday meetings and the youth Wednesday worship service.
